Masons cap off week with semi win

MASONS ARMS capped off the perfect week with a J&A Trophy semi-final win over Shildon Fox and Hounds last week.
Just five days after confirming their league title status with an ampthatic win over Old Shildon, they hopped into a Tudhoe United final with a 5-1 win over Shildon Athletic thanks to goals by Liam McRoy (2), Tom Fothergill, Marc Costello and John Savage.
Boss Anthony Warnett said: “It wasn’t as straight-forward as the scoreline suggests, to be fair! We went three goals up and they pulled one back before half-time and had a real go, they play some good football and put us under some pressure.
“But we managed to get the fourth after half-time and I think that knocked the wiund out of their ails and was enough to see them enough, but credit to them they kept battling.”
On winning the title, Warnett added: “It’s been a long old season but it’s been worth it. The lads have looked a bit weary at times – some of them are playing four games a week – so there’s been a few tired legs and at times they have run short of ideas, but it’s good to get there and to get a final.”
Masons play Tudhoe United in the J&A Trophy Final at Coxhoe on Sunday May 6.
