Shildon run continues with Hunwick win

OLD SHILDON continued their blistering form at the summit of the top flight with an impressive win at home to Hunwick Joiners.

And with champions Thorns without a game, and having lost two league games already, Shildon’s win puts them in a much stronger position at the top of Division One.

The win puts Shildon in a much stronger position at the top of Division One.

They took a first half lead through Craig Richardson, and he added a second after the break to double their lead.

Neil Robinson then missed a penalty for Shildon, but Martin Hedley made sure of the win with Shildon’s third.

Goalscorer Hedley admitted: “I would say the scoreline flattered them a bit – they missed a few chances, but I think overall we deserved to win the game. We’ve really come on in the last few weeks, we got a couple of new signings and it has really made a big difference for us.”

Elsewhere in Division One, second-placed Masons Arms won 6-0 at Bay Horse with goals by Tom Fothergill (3), Liam McRoy, Sheldon Metcalfe and Lee Atkinson.

Croxdale won 3-1 at home to Voltigeur with goals by Craig Flowers, Andy Stewart and Kevin Hepburn. Chris Pennal scored Volti’s goal.

Quinns won 3-0 at Binchester Social Club thanks to goals by Gareth Jackson, Steven Quinn and Chris Hodgson.
