Shildon Fox through to J&A quarters
Sunday 28th January 2007 J&A Trophy Round Two Shildon Fox 5 Roberts 3, Hall, Wilson Browney 3 Kitching, Nicholson, Kidd
SHILDON Fox and Hounds bounced back from two goals down to eventually overpower their Division Two opponents.
The Division Three leaders were able to book their place in the quarter-finals of the competition after a close battle with second division leaders Browney.
Stuart Kitching and Andrew Nicholson had given Browney a two-goal lead, only for Steven Hall to pull one back for Shildon and Michael Roberts grabbed the equaliser before half-time.
Roberts then added another two after the break to put Shildon 4-2 up, and then Neil Wilson added a fifth before John Kidd pulled another one back for Browney.
“We struggled to get out of bed,” said Shildon Secretary Dave Owens. “But they had the wind against them in the second half and we didn’t really look like losing the game. Darren Foster was once again first class for us, but Michael Roberts also took his goals very well.”
Browney’s Gerard Crooks said: “It was a good, physical game and although one or two things upset us during the game, they scored a couple more goals than us during the game so we can’t really argue with that.”
Meanwhile, Tudhoe United also booked their place in the quarter-finals with a 3-1 win at home to Fox and Hounds, Paul Leadbitter (2) and Dan Fox scoring the goals. Steven Walton scored for the Fox.
Division Three side Castle beat Division One side North Briton 4-0 with goals by Paul Thompson (3) and Robert Hamilton.
Quinns won 6-2 at Bishop Masons thanks to goals by Justin Fox (3), Chris Hodgson (2) and Craig Parker.
The game between Masons United and Green Tree was postponed.
The quarter-finals of the J&A Trophy consist of: Half Moon, Aycliffe Village, Masons Arms, Tudhoe Utd, Castle, Quinns, Shildon Fox and Masons Utd/Green Tree. The draw will be made at the next league meeting on Wednesday February 7, and games to be played Sunday March 11.
