Eight-goal epic ends in draw Sunday 19th November 2006
Division Three Fox and Hounds 4 Walton 2, Rand, Anderson Shildon Fox 4 Foster 3, Roberts
THE two Fox and Hounds teams in Division Three scrapped out a goal fest as both sides dropped two points in their title quests.
In a hum-dinging game, Shildon Fox and Hounds – the visitors – came from behind twice to grab a draw, and became the stronger side in the second half.
Steven Walton put Merrington Fox ahead inside the first 10 minutes, only for Darren Foster to equalise with a long-range effort.
Stuart Rand then put Merrington Fox ahead again, from the penalty spot after 35 minutes, and Walton grabbed his second to make it 3-1 10 minutes after half-time.
Michael Roberts and Foster then scored to haul Shildon Fox back in the game, only to see Carl Anderson net what looked like a winner 10 minutes from time.
But midfielder Foster completed his hat-trick to draw the Shildon side level again.
“We feel it’s two points lost rather than one gained,” said an unhappy Merrington Fox boss Jeffrey Spooner. “We could have won the game. We had more than enough chances and I thought we edged it. But we really needed to win this game so it’s disappointing.”
Shildon Secretary Dave Owens said: “I honestly thought it was a game of two halves. We never got going in the first and they deserved their lead, but there was a spell in the second when we’ve out played them. They went to pieces when we got the second and third goals and could have won it, but by the end of the game I think a draw was probably a fair result.”
Meanwhile, Aycliffe Village capitalised on the draw and jumped to second as they continued their impressive form with a 12-2 win at Masons United. Marc Addy netted five goals, while Morgan Fielding netted a brace and there was one apiece from Darren Griffiths, Wayne Marram, Carl Cook, Jonathan Craig and Phil Judge. Gavin Alderson and Shaun Stanley scored Masons’ goals.
Elsewhere in Division Three, EBAC won 8-2 at the Navy Club with goals by Mark Owen (3), Craig Ellison (2), Gareth Hodgson (2) and Damon Askew.
