MASONS ARMS stamped their authority on the league with a thumping win over the North Briton.

The league-leaders went four points clear at the top of Division One, with four games in hand over second-placed Old Shildon, thanks to a 9-1 mauling over fourth-placed North Briton, who dropped two places to sixth with the crushing defeat.

Liam McRoy scored a hat-trick for Masons, while there was also a brace apiece by John Savage and Tom Fothergill. Steven Fothergill and Mark Costello were also on the scoresheet.

“Everything went for us,” said Masons’ Anthony Warnett. “We started really well, probably the best we’ve started all season, and we were 4-0 up after just 20 minutes.

“Their heads went down a bit and it was always going to be difficult for them, but it was plain-sailing after that. Credit to them, they never gave up and kept trying, but we played some really good stuff, our one-touch passing was superb.”

Paul Barnes scored the Brit’s only consolation goal.

Elsewhere in Division One, Croxdale won 5-2 at home to Old Shildon with goals by Gavin Bell (3), Andy Stewart and an own goal. Michael Davidson and Neil Robinson scored for Shildon.

Hunwick Joiners won 6-0 at Bay Horse with goals by Shaun Nicholson (3), James Melville and John Foster.

Paul Leadbitter and Aaron McGarr were both on target for Tudhoe United as they won 2-1 at Quinns, with Steven Quinn netting for the losers.

Thorns were 6-0 winners at Voltigeur, with Anthony Stewart (3), Mark Nickkson (2) and Shaun Longthorne scoring the goals.
