Browney put eight past Hogans Sunday 12th November 2006
Division Two Hogans 1 Welsh Browney 8 Nicholson 2, Baron, Dixon, Taylor, Kidd, Kitching, D.Wallace BROWNEY got all the goals last week as a string of surprising results saw 10 teams fail to score in all three divisions. Browney were the only team in the whole league to get past the four-goals mark as only 28 were scored in all 11 fixtures – an unusually low figure. Robbie Baron got them off the mark, while John Dixon, Carl Taylor, John Kidd and Stewart Kitching all scored before the break to give Browney a 5-0, half-time lead. Paul Welsh pulled one back for Hogans – but further goals by David Wallace and an Andrew Nicholson brace compounded Hogans’ struggle. “I thought we played very well,” said Browney’s assistant manager Gavin Mudd. “They seemed to be struggling for players, but they’d got a few good results this season and were doing quite well, and we thought we’d be in for a hard game. “But we’ve been playing quite well recently – we gave Thorns a decent run for their money in the League Cup last week – so the aim is just to keep getting the results in the league and pip New Brancepeth to the divisional title!” Elsewhere in Division Two, Darren Hewitson scored a debut goal for Eldon Arms as they won 1-0 at home to Green Tree. Shildon Athletic won 3-1 at Half Moon with goals by Peter Duce (2) and Chris Ross, while Craig Hindmarch struck twice as New Brancepeth won 2-0 at Belvedere. |
