Brit back on track with six-goal win
Sunday 11th February 2007 Division One
North Briton 6 De Lucia 3, Kay, Hepples, Miller Voltigeur 1 Mullin
NORTH BRITON got their stop-start season back on track with a comfortable home win over struggling Voltigeur.
In difficult conditions, with the pitch cutting up badly early on, the Brit started brightly and put the Volti under pressure from the off, with striker Marc De Lucia opening the scoring after 10 minutes.
The visitors came back and pushed for a leveller before the Brit hit them on the counter-attack and doubled their lead through Andy Kay.
De Lucia then added two more before half-time to complete his hat-trick and virtually kill the game off.
Steve Hepples grabbed the Brit’s fifth before sub Joel Miller notched with a 30-yard cracker.
Volti grabbed a late consolation through Andrew Mullin with the last kick of the game.
Brit boss Stuart Hodgson said: “We deserved the three points, we never stopped battling in very difficult conditions, and hopefully this will set us up nicely for the rest of the season. Full credit goes to the Volti for their never-say-die attitude – they battled away right until the end.”
Elsewhere in Division One, Paul Whensley scored twice for Old Shildon as they drew 2-2 with Croxdale, with Gavin Bell and Andy Stewart scoring for Croxdale.
