Sunday 7th January 2007
League Cup Round One
Southerne Club 1
Hudson
New Brancepeth 4
Holiday 2, Wilkinson 2

NEW BRANCEPETH rattled four goals in inside the last 10 minutes to eventually overpower the Southerne Club and book their place in the second round.

Division Three side Southerne had taken the lead through Scott Hudson and battled hard to keep their lead until a flurry of goals gifted second division brancepeth their passage to the next round.

Anthony Holiday and Phil Wilkinson both netted two goals apiece to save their bacon and book a second round clash with high-flying Masons Arms.

“They were unlucky,” admitted Brancepeth Secretary Brian Stewart. “We can take nothing away from them, they battled hard right to the end and played some good football, they were brilliant.

“I thought it was going to be one of those days for us, when nothing was going to go in, but thankfully we scored four lucky goals late on and that was enough.”
