VILLAGE INN SHINE IN COUNTY CUP CLASHGame of the Week 7th September 2010
The first round of the County Cup saw some tasty fixtures for the Spennymoor league sides and with Village Inn playing former SSL side The Welcome we were in for a good day for football. Welcome started the stronger side and capitalized with Michael Yorke heading home early on from close range, but the away side dug in and were soon on level terms with a strike from  Craig Brown and they soon took the lead with another from Aaron Jackson. Welcome had their chances to equalize but after a few spurned chances and some good play by their keeper  Village Inn made them pay before half time with 2 goals from Lee Gobin. It was much the same in the second half with Michael Yorke getting his second with a free kick before Aaron Jackson put the game to bed with his second of the game. ‘I thought we played very well against a very experienced team who we have had some good battles with in the past’ said Village secretary Jeff Spooner  ’ We thoroughly deserved to win the game as we played some excellent football at times and it was a confidence boosting result going into Merrington derby next Sunday’.

Spennymoor Sunday League

Game of the Week 24th August 2010Tuesday night at Jubilee Park Spennymoor gave us the chance to welcome two of the new teams to the league as Salvins met Cumby Arms in  the second division clash. The game looked to be a lively affair and didn’t disappoint as both teams were up for the challenge from kick off. It was Cumby who looked the sharpest with Tony Callahan going close early on putting wide from the right and Dale Anderson heading over from the resulting corner. Both sides spurned chances but it was Cumby who eventually broke the deadlock with David Teder slotting home from an unselfish pass by Callaghan midway through the half. Second half was much of the same with both sides creating chances but failing to capitalise with both keepers making some good saves. Elsewhere Cumberland held the Legion to a 1-1 draw Jubilee Fc were beaten by local rivals Three Tuns 2-5  and Bay Horse beat King James 3-0
